It seems like the new ‘it’ beauty product is liquid lipstick. If your brand doesn’t have one then you’re probably not a legitimate business. That’s probably a bit too harsh and actually, unlike BB creams, most brands are doing liquid lipsticks successfully. I recently had the opportunity to try out two of the liquid lipsticks offered by Bodyography. Bodyography is an American company available in South Africa through selected Placecol, Dream Nails and Perfect 10 salons.
- Made in the USA;
- Certified Cruelty Free;
- Paraben Free; and
- Gluten Free.
That’s impressive, even for me. I’m becoming more conscious of the impact I have on the environment and animals, so I really appreciate it when a brand does the same.
The lip lava’s are gluten-free and vegan and according to Bodyography, have 3x more pigment than other brands on the market. The lipsticks are available in a selection of matte and metallic shades. I received two complementary shades, Basic and Crystal Moon.
The formula of these lipsticks is really thin and glides on really easily. I’m quite impressed by the pigment too and one swipe is more than enough colour for me. I do find this formula a little drying on my lips but not enough to create any visible flaking, just a slight discomfort and tightness immediately after application.
I really love Basic and I wear it all the time, it is on the edge of being too light for me but I’ve made it work. Crystal Moon is a really slick metallic shade that works well when paired with Basic. Both of these have the same amazing pigment and they have great lasting power too. At the launch I was shown a few colours of their range from later this year and I was SO IMPRESSED. They’ll be arriving around our summer (American Winter) and the collection features some really nice warm, deep colours.
Below I’ve swatched them quite heavily so you can see the top of the swatch is still wet, in practice I use a MUCH thinner coat and it looks beautiful. I’ve also included images of the wand below so you can get an idea of the colours and the wand, it actually looks really different on my hand vs the wand.
I also like the packaging of these, the simple tubes with a frosted look are pretty and effective.
