WOW. 2016 was a big year for beauty, especially beauty in SA. Brands already here released interesting innovations and we saw quite a few great brands launch. I also truly discovered Asian Beauty and I am blown away by the philosophy of it all. I’m planning to do a post discussing how Asian Beauty works and how you can get into it. Even though my skin isn’t in the best place right now, I can’t always control my hormones and stress levels but these products have really helped fight the fire! So, here’s what I love that I discovered last year!
I’ve always been a little obsessed with Asian Beauty (or AB), and because I went to Japan in early 2016 I got to use some Japanese and Asian products. Sheet masks have become my favourite skincare ritual. There are so many out there, and they do a myriad of things but my favourite masks are brightening and hydrating. My parched skin feels plump and smooth after a good mask. I’ve used the cult favourite My Beauty Diary masks, some masks from The Face Shop and the Lululun 7-day mask pack. I LOVED the Lululun pack. Perhaps a more detailed review is in order?
I can’t believe it, but this cutie pie makes the list. I was ALWAYS reaching for BAE when at the beach. I’m not exactly comfortable with my makeup-free self so a quick application to my cheeks and lips kept me fresh and hydrated. LOVE IT. Don’t stop Lancome.
Another Asian Beauty favourite. Exfoliating gels provide gentle physical exfoliation and I mean gentle. I have the Aqua Cure Gel and its the #1 exfoliator in Japan, apparently they sell 1 bottle every 12 seconds. It’s pretty simple, you just apply the gel to your face, wait a few seconds and then rub your face gently. It almost seems like pieces of your skin come off, but it’s actually not. The liquid just forms soft balls that physically exfoliate the skin. No harsh seeds or questionable microbeads here.
ADORE. ADORE. ADORE. I can’t begin to tell you how much I love this. Perhaps it’s because it’s the first lipstick palette I’ve owned that I’ve actually liked? or it could be the HUGE mirror, the variety of finishes and the damn good quality lipstick. I just love it.
And just charcoal masks in general. I tried the Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue masque early last year and I FELL IN LOVE. It is one of the best masks a\I have ever used. Since then I’ve researched the benefits of charcoal masks like the Aztec Healing Clay mask (not really available here) and I really want to try another. Any recommendations?
Laser hair removal
I didn’t really discover laser hair removal in 2016, I reaped the benefits and I’ll continue to reap them for a while. I invested a good amount of money on laser hair removal and I wrote about my experience a few times (read about it here, here and here). I can’t stress enough how much my confidence has gone up and how much time I save where it really matters. I go to The Laser Beautique, you should try them out!
