I stayed at the Forum Homini last year in August and I won’t forget it. The room alone was magnificent, but when I spoke about it before I didn’t quite mention just how great the food was.
Included in our rate was the five course breakfast and the six course dinner offered at Roots, the on-site restaurant. The husband isn’t the biggest fan of fine-dining but I really enjoyed the experience because I love food. (Man, I love food.). I took a few photos of my dishes and kept some of my favourites. Dessert, as always was amazing. I love a well put-together dessert that take a simple dish like a chocolate tart with ice cream so much further.
Location: The restaurant is set in the reserve close to the hotel rooms next to a small lake and is very simply just wood and glass.
Price: R420pp (at the time of writing) for the six course dinner plus R135pp for the wine teasers to accompany your meal for dinner. They do have cheaper prices available for visits during the week.
Overall, the experience is not for everyone, but the ambiance is amazing, the decor is simple and classy and the service is excellent.I’ve been to most of the finedining spots in Johannesburg and Roots really stands up to the rest of them!
