I don’t need to tell you how important foundation is in your skincare routine. Foundation can be the finishing touch to your natural look or its crutch. Because I use foundation to work now, I’ve become quite a tough cookie when reviewing them. A foundation that leaves me oily at 10am just won’t do it anymore.
I received the Bourjois Air Mat foundation in shade 06 Golden Skin to try out recently. I have used Bourjois foundations before and I am well aware of the fanfare that Healthymix gets from those who have tried it. Bourjois foundations are usually a great combination of value for the price you pay.
Bourjois Air Mat is a medium coverage foundation that is supposed to dry to a completely matte finish. I used this foundation in a two ways:
- Over primer, applied with a brush and then set with powder
- Over a bb cream applied with hands and then set with a finishing spray.
When I used it with a brush and then set with powder, I just didn’t like it. It sets very matte and is very visible on my face. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t as natural as I hoped it would look. However, when I used it over a warm-toned bb cream and set it with a finishing spray it looked amazing. So amazing that I got random compliments! I’m chalking the difference down to my dry skin, foundation does tend to stick to flakier areas especially if it’s a matte formula.
The shade I have, 06 Golden Skin is a great match for my MAC NC43ish skin, but it does have a slight pink tone. So if you are very yellow-toned it won’t work for you. This is a general problem with many Bourjois foundations however and not just with this Air Mat.
Overall, I actually like the Bourjois Air Mat foundation. It ‘s a good choice if you like a matte finish and even if you don’t a finishing spray will fix that up for you. The coverage is medium and I use much less concealer than I do with other foundations, it also doesn’t crease easily.
