Now Trying | Horse Shampoo

equiline horse shampoo

Thicker hair is not something I really need, but I am really trying to grow out my fringe and hair colour, so while shopping with the boyf I thought I’d just pick up some horse shampoo ( I make it sound far more easy than it actually was). We purchased the Equiline Hose Shampoo over the Trident because a) it was more expensive and well, more expensive is better right? (I know, it was a stretch).

The shampoo costs around R160 for a 1 litre bottle. That’s around R40 for 250ml which is the same price as standard shampoos. I did also purchase small containers to decant the shampoo into to make it easier when I was showering. The 1 litre bottle is huge and the shampoo is quite thin.

I also bought some bergamot essence which many claim to stop hair loss, I won’t be using it in my first two weeks, but I will use it after and compare the results.

The Claims

Cheerleaders of horse shampoo will tell you that it makes your hair thicker, shinier and grow quicker. Because horse hair is so similar to human hair, it is safe to use horse shampoo on your hair.

Conditions:

1. Use horse shampoo every 3rd wash.

2. Make sure that you use a good conditioner.

3. Be careful when using horse shampoo f you have very fine or dry hair.

I’ll be using horse shampoo for the next two weeks and get back here with an update 🙂

Update: I couldn’t use this! It made my hair really dry and I barely saw any difference. Did it work for you?

I only paid R50 for a litre of Equiline. The most I’ve paid is R100. When I used it, I would mix it with my regular shampoo. Good luck with growing out your bangs! I recently decided to just go for it and cut me a fringe.

Guys as a showjumper with 3 horses (and I’ve been riding since I was 5 years old) I can tell you that the majority of horse shampoos on the market aren’t actually used on horses. Considering the size of a horse – 1 litre at R160 is pretty steap.

I laugh when most of you go off and buy the likes of Equiline for your own hair – guess what we use the majority of the time on horses? Colgate shampoo. Super cheap and does the job.

Alternatively, we use companies such as these: http://www.facebook.com/naturalhorsecare – far cheaper than the likes of Equiline AND all natural products. Saying that, Equiline is a horse shampoo – but you were definitely overcharged for it. Trident & Equiline are not much different at all in terms of actual composition.

The long and short of it? The marketing gimmick about the horse shampoo was based on a human product developed years ago which alleged it was originally a horse shampoo (also costs an arm and a leg).

If you want something to make your hair grow, I’m currently using FAST shampoo and conditioner. I was really skeptical at first but after a few weeks, started noticing all this regrowth…I’m now stuck with what look like bangs but is actually all new hair. Since November, it’s grown about 8cm or so…

You can get the FAST shampoo and conditioner from shops that sell salon products. I’m sure you can also get it from your hairdresser.

I picked up the same bottle at my local vet store and it was only R86! Used it twice so far but still waiting to see some sort of result.

Can you mix the horse shampoo and bergamot essence into your normal shampoo and, if so, what proportions?
