Many people often comment about my hair, frankly because I have so much of it. I really am blessed to have such amazing hair, but after dying it 6 times it hasn’t been doing so well. Us brown girls do have a hair secret though. Amla Oil.
Amla oil originated from india and is a green and pretty strong-smelling oil used to treat hair made from Indian gooseberry. In the early days, the gooseberries were soaked in mineral oils or coconut oil. The oil is rich in Vitamin C, carbohydrates, protein and fatty acids Amla oil increases shine and apparently enhances the black colour of indian hair.
I can’t say anything about the blackness of my hair because I’ve recently dyed it, but after a good soak in amla oil my hair feels soft and definitely looks more shiny.
How to use Amla Oil:
I use Amla Oil as a leave-in treatment the night before I wash my hair so that it gets a good soak and the oil really penetrates my hair. I finish off with a good shampoo and conditioner.
Where to get Amla oil?
You nearest Indian Spice shop or grocer will always have some Amla oil in stock. It hardly ever is too costly as well, which is a bonus!
Amla oil too strong for you?
My mother used to make an amazing blend using Amla Oil, coconut oil and olive oil which worked wonders for my hair. I’m just a little lazy to make the mix and Amla oil alone works well for me.
